Türkiisi kapriisid/The moody turquoise

It all started yesterday when we tried to photograph the jacket. The day was sunny and the colour was impossible to render either in the sun or in the shadow, it came too light. Ave did her best but the colour was hoplessly wrong (the first picture).
Mis siis teha? Kutsusin appi Kristiina, kes on üsna osav. Värv tegi, mida ise tahtis.
What can  I do? I invited Kristiina who has the skills. The colour did what it wanted.
Liiga hele või liiga lahja, ei tea.
Too light, too watery, don 't know.
Siin on näha mustrit, kuid värv on tegelikult sügavam.
Here you can see the stitch pattern but the colour is deeper in reality.
Kogu asi pani lõpuks muigama.
The whole business made me smile at the end.

Also on the factory homepage the colour is lighter than in reality: go here and choose Turquoise. Thank you, Ave and Kristiina!

Üht ja teist/Various matters

Uus kudum on valmis, aga pildistamine tuleb hiljem, sest ei õnnestu kuidagi õiget värvi kätte saada. Siin on proovilapp, antud juhul on õige värv, kuigi punased on ka kapriissed.
The project is finished but photos will be taken later because it is difficult to render the right colour. Here is a swatch, in this case the colour is true, although reds can be moody.
Ave has test-knitted this tunic and the result is here:

Aitäh, Ave!
Thank you very much, Ave!

Tavaliselt nii ei juhtu/Usually this is not the case

Tavaliselt nii ei juhtu. Raasiku vabriku lõng annab pestes värvi, kas rohkem või vähem. Oleneb partiist.
Usually this is not the case. The Raasiku factory yarn runs colour when washed, to a greater or lesser extent. It depends on a dye lot. But this time I was warned already in the factory that this particular turquoise is very cunning and may run a lot. I know that some people wash Estonian yarns before knitting but this is a matter of taste, I believe. You have to wash the garment anyway after you have completed it. Not that this is so terrible but my hands look like this:
Võrdluseks kudumi värviga, päris lõbus:
To compare with the colour of the garment, quite funny:
Pestes ei andnud värvi nii-ii väga palju. Igatahes toon on jäänud samaks.
When washed, it did not run so-o-o much. In any case, the shade has remained the same.

Keeruga silmused/Through back loop

Mulle meeldivad mustrid, kus on keergua parempidiseid silmuseid.
I like stitch patterns where some knit stitches are knit through back loops. Not all yarns are suitable for this. Speaking of Estonian yarns, Aade lõng 8/3 is fine, possibly that 8/2 as well. Lithuanian Teksrena thicker yarns are also suitable.

Midagi eesti lõngast/Something from Estonian yarn

Now something from Estonian yarn. The true colour is turquoise but in the present light I cannot capture it. We shall see how it turns out.

Pilte/Some pictures

Nüüd on valmis! Jakk sobib Anule päris kenasti.
Now it is finished! The jacket suits Anu quite well.

The mixture of several yarns adds draping qualities, which is important for a jacket.

Ikka jälle rombid/Diamonds again and again

The stitch pattern has its effect when there is a lot of it.

Vahele saaks panna kitsemaid pitsimustreid (4-5 silmust).
It appears that the pattern is suitable for different yarns, for instance, wool, cotton, maybe rayon-cotton blend. Probably, it would look nice in a dress or skirt. It can be alternated with narrow stitch patterns (4-5 stitches wide).

Rombid/Diamonds

Jälle üks vihje. Mulle meeldib väga see rombimuster. On lihtne, kuid pole igav kududa.
A hint again. I like this diamond pattern a lot. Its beauty becomes visible when there is a lot of fabric in the pattern, quite a few diamond columns. It can be found in Estonian stitch dictionaries but, apparently, also elsewhere. It is simple but not borring to knit.

reede, 13. aprill 2012

Olen praegu Taanis, Aarhusis. Astusin sisse. Poe nimi on Ingers, perenaise nime jägi. Kohe nägin, et on midagi tuttavat, kuna mitmeid disaine olen imetlenud Ravelrys. Pildil on külalislahke perenaine Inge Möldrup. Soovitan uurida Ravelrys tema loomingut.
I am in Aarhus, Denmark right now. Had no time to go around but tonight I walked in the old city and saw accidentally a yarn shop that was still open. I went in. The name of the shop is Ingers after the owner. I immediately noticed some familiar designs I had marked and admired on Ravelry. The friendly hostess Inge Möldrup is in the pictue. I recommend to look up her creations on Ravelry.
The shop carries yarns by differrent manufacturers but also that of the owner. Mostly it is wool, wool-silk or wool-alpaca blend in a lot of colours.
Poes võib osta Hanne Falkenbergi õpetusi. Nagu näha, müüakse komplekte: lõng koos õpetusega. Hanne Falkenbergi disain on mulle samuti tuttav.
One can also by Hanne Falkenberg's pattens. As you can see, there are kits available (yarn and pattern). Hanne Falkenberg's designs are also familiar to me.
Aitäh!
Thank you!
Tak!

Segu/Mix

Viimasel ajal meeldib mulle lõngu kokku panna. Eriti puudutab see mohääri.
Recently I've become interested in mixing yarns. It especially concerns mohair. Today on Ravelry I looked several knits from yarns that consist of linen, mohair and nylon. For instance Louet KidLin (the name already hints at mohair and linen).
I have heard from Lithuanian knitters that there are people who mix such different yarns. I have not seen results. Now I think about trying it out. I don't have to buy expensive yarns faraway abroad, it is possible to manage with yarns purchased in Estonia and Lithuania.
Lähiajal ei saa tihti kirjutada, sest lähen välismaale. Aga koon ikka, nagu alati.
In the nearest future I will not be able to post frequently because I am going abroad. But I am knitting as always.

Tumelilla/Dark purple

Here is the finished top. It is about zero degrees outside and some unknown substance is coming down from the sky, so photographing outdoors is out of question. Thank you, Ave, for taking pictures!

The true colour is dark purple but for some reason it is difficult to capture it. I nevertheless hope that you can see the stitch pattern.

Jälle hall/Gray again

Uus proovilapp, 3 erinevat lõnga koos.
A new swatch, 3 different fibers together.

Värv on tegelikult pisut sinakam.
The true colour is somewhat more blue.

Today a small group of people (Ave, Helin and myself) visited the Raasiku yarn factory. Helin was driving and because of that she could not knit. But Ave and me knit on the back seat.
We arrived at 10 o'clock precisely before the opening. There was only one customer in addition to us. Thus, we had opportunity to loock around and to choose, and we had several wishlists from friends. We discussed colours with the salesmanager because not everything we wante was there. The factory has so many orders that it is impossible to guarantee all colour combinations around the clock. I said they could do a black-red combination but the manager answered that pobably in this case I would be the only buyer. I am not really sure whether this is right. With all this excitement we forgot to take pictures but I photographed my yarns at home.
Näitan pisut oma praegust kudumit. Niipalju võin vihjata, et pole villasest lõngast.
Here is a glimpse of my current project. I can hint as much that it is not from wool.

Kooskudumine ja Triloogia/Knitting together and Trilogy

Yesterday Mia and Helena arrived to Tallinn. The plan was quite usual: to visit yarn shops and to knit together. Kristiina joined us, too. After Karnaluks and W&W we went to the Pronksi shop (but of course!). In the picture you see from left to right Kristiina, Helena and Mia in front of the Pronksi shop door.
Siis Kristiina pidi ära minema, ülejäänud kolmik läks kohvikusse.
Then Kristiina had to leave and the remaining group of three went to a cafeteria.
Aga tegelikult oli meil veel üks plaan. Kunagi sügisel ostsime kolmekesi (Mia, Helena ja mina) sama sokilõnga Karnaluksist. Siis tuli kolm erinevat kudumit. Helena oli esimene, kes valmis sai. Siis sain valmis mina ja siis Mia. Ei mäleta, kuidas on sündinud koodnimi Triloogia. Nüüd on kõik Triloogia osad ilusti koos.
Actually, we had one more plan. Sometimes this autumn the three of us (Mia, Helena and myself) bought the same kind of sock yarn at Karnaluks. The result was three different knits. Helena was the first one to finish hers. Then I completed mine and then finally Mia did the third part. I don't remember how the code name Trilogy had emerged. Now all the three parts are so nicely together.

Kristiina, täname piltide eest!
Kristiina, thanks a lot for taking pictures!
Mia, Helena, kiitoksia!
