Ikka uuesti/And once more

Pean tunnistama, et olin eile liiga optimistlik. Kirjutasin ja siis läksin peegli juurde. Kohe selgus, et (1) kude on liiga tihke, pole minu maitse ja (2) kuigi teoorias on need pahempidised reas on ilusad, peeglipilt polnud kena. Järelikult, harutada ja alustada uuesti. Ja siis võtsin mustri, mida kaalusin algusest peale, ainult ei tea isegi, miks hakkasin tegema teisiti. Tõsi küll, tegumood on teine. Siiski põhiidee, s.o. sviiter kõrge kraega, on alles.
I have to admit that I was too optimistic yesterday. I posted here and then went to the mirror. Immediately it was clear that (1) the fabric is too tight to my liking and (2) although in theory these purl rows are nice, the mirror reflection was not. Therefore, frog and start again. And then I took up the stitch pattern I had been considering in the very beginning, only I don't know myself why I started doing something else. Yes, the construction is different. Still, the main idea, that is, a sweater with a high collar, is preserved.

Muster on kergesti modifitseeritav, kui on vaja, võib teha kasvatusi ja kahandusi täiesti märkamatult. Käeaugud on juba valmis, ühendasin ja koon jälle ringselt.
The lace pattern is easily modifiable, if you need, increases and decreases are completely invisible. The armholes are done and I joined the knitting and knit in round again.

Uus katsetus/A new attempt

Mõtlesin, et las olla vana hea raglaan. Raglaan meeldib mulle. Mu esimene kootud sviiter, nn Vanahall, oli ka raglaan.
I decided that it would be a raglan. I like raglan. My first knitted sweater, so-called Vanahall, was a raglan, too.

Algusesse pääsemine oli küll keeruline. Lõng Ragsokgarn on pealtnäha jäme (50 g/80 m), samas on piisavalt pehme. Tükk aega kulus tegumoe, mustri ja, kõige olulisem, vardanumbri valimisele. Varras on 5 mm. Vaatame, kuidas läheb.
Getting to the right start was difficult. The yarn Ragsokgarn looks bulky (50 g/80 m) but is soft enough. A whole lot of time was spent for choosing the construction, stitches and, most important, the needles. It is 5 mm. We shall see how it goes.

Diagnoos: vatt/The diagnosis: cotton wool

Mõnikord on nii, et on kohe selge, mis läks valesti. Siis on lihtne. Mõnikord on aga nii, et on tunne, et midagi on viltu, aga n-ö diagnoosi on raske panna. Mingil hetkel tundsin, et miski ei meeldi. Kusjuures suurus jms on korras. Seletamatu asi. Arutasin mõne sõbraga, keegi ei leidnud viga, aga see tunne ei kadunud. Pildid on tehtud eile; kuna võimalikke pildistajaid polnud kodus, pildistasin end peeglist (paha lugu).

Sometimes it is clear at once what is wrong. In that case everything is easy. Sometimes, however, you have a feeling that something is wrong but it is hard to come forward with a diagnosis. At some point I felt that there is something I don't like. Whereas the size etc is fine. Inexplicable. I discussed it with some friends and nobody saw anything wrong with it; nevertheless, my feeling did not disappear. The pictures were taken yesterday; as potential photographers were not at home, I took a picture of my reflection in the mirror (too bad).

Siis hakkasin aru saama, et mulle ei meeldi seda lõnga katsuda, kuigi ta on pehme. Võib-olla liiga pehme (mul on selline probleem, ei armasta liiga pehmeid lõngu). Täna ütles tuttav müüja: nagu vatt. Just! See ongi diagnoos: lõng tundub katsudes nagu vatt. Ei saanud sellest kohe aru. Muidugi võite öelda, et teada asi, akrüül jne. Samas tean, et täpselt sama koostisega lõngad võivad olla väga mõnusad. Asi pole mitte ainult koostises, vaid ikka kuidas lõnga tehakse. Niisiis, läks valesti, aga hea, et olen targem.
Then I started realizing that I don't like to touch this yarn, although it is soft. Maybe even too soft (I have this problem, I dislike too soft yarns). Today a familiar saleswomen suggested: it feels like cotton wool. Exactly! This is the diagnosis: the yarn feels like cotton wool. I did not understand it in the beginning. Of course you may say that it has acrylic and it is all well known etc. Still, I know that yarns containing the same fibers in the same proportions can be rather pleasant. It is not only about the proportions of fibers but also how a certain yarn is produced. So it went wrong but it is good that I have learned something.

Midagi uut/Something new

Näitan midagi uut. Sellest tuleb kõrge kraega sviiter. Värv on kõige õigem esimesel pildil, tegelikult on lillakam.
Here is something new. It will become a turtle-neck sweater. The most realist rendition of the colour is in the first picture, in fact, it is more purplish.


Lõngast. Mul on 5 tokki Sandnes Kitten mohääri, 50 g /16o m. Seda lõnga on mulle kiidetud korduvalt. Vaatasin Ravelrys ja sain mulje, et 5 tokist saaks küll sviitri, aga kõrge krae osas pole kindel, kas jätkub. Mõtlesin, et ei riski ja ostan uut lõnga, kuna Sandnesi Eestist ei saa ja tuleb nt Soome sõita. Sellepärast hankisin Karnaluksist Patons Studio mohääri, mis on sama (50 % mohäär, 50 % akrüül, 50 g/160 m) 6 tokki.
About the yarn. I have 5 skeins of Sandnes Kitten mohair, 50 g/160 m. I have repeatedly heard positive comments about it . I looked up on Ravelry and got an impression that 5 skeins is enough for a sweater but maybe the collar would be questionable. I decided not to take the risk and to get new yarn because Sandnes is not on sale in Estonia and it would be necessary to go to Finland, for instance. That is why I got from Karnaluks Patons Studio mohair that has the same characteristics (50 % mohair, 50 % acrylic, 50 g/160 m), 6 skeins.

Karnaluksis on lõng tõesti soodne. Aga nüüd üllatus: mul on kootud ütleme pool kere osast ja esimene tokk pole veel päris lõppenud. Huvitav, mitu tokki siis kulub.
The yarn is really cheap at Karnaluks. And now a small surprise: I have a half of the torso part knitted and the first skein is not yet finished. I am curious how many skeins I will use up.
Sviitrist. Konstruktsioon on muidugi tuttav, kuid kasvatusi tegin kahes võttes, mitte korraga. Alla tuleb veel muster, pean selleni veel kuduma. Võib muidugi tunduda, et kõik kudumid on enam-vähem samasugused. Aga hakkasin nüüd aru saama, et võib-olla on kõrvaltvaatajale/mittekudujale paistab silma paljude kudumite sarnasus, tegijale aga vastupidi, kuna tegija (antud juhul mina) uurib teatud elementide võimalusi jne.
About the sweater. Of course the construction is familiar; however, I made increases in two steps and not at once. There will be a pattern in the bottom but I have to knit some more. One can think that all my garments are more or less alike. Still, now I have realized that it may very well be so for an observer/non-knitter but an author (me in this case) seeks to explore the potential of certain elements.

Punamust/Red-black

Hõlmikvest on nüüd täitsa valmis, tegime Pronksi poes hulga pilte. Kahjuks on mul jälle tekkinud värviallergia, kududes tundsin, et silmad kipitavad ja valmiskudumine pesu ei aidanud. Nii et selle vesti saab endale keegi teine, endale koon mõnest muust lõngast.
The wrap-vest is finished and we took some photos at Pronksi yarn shop. Unfortunately, I have dye allergy again, while knitting I felt irritation in the eyes and washing the garment did not help. So somebody else gets this vest and I will knit for myself something similar from another yarn.

In a couple of pictures you can see that the boxes with Evilla yarns have arrived. The sale is tomorrow. And June 15th is a World Wide Knitt in Public Day at Vabaduse Square in Tallinn, I hope to be there.

Selgus siiski, et varrukate kudumiseks ei jätku mul lõnga, kuna värvijaotus ei luba eriti mänguruumi. Aga hõlmikvest on ka vajalik asi. Ilmselt saab seda kanda ka eest lahtiselt.
It became clear that I don't have enough yarn for the sleeves because the colour distribution does not allow much freedom. But also a wrap-vest is something useful. Probably it is possible to wear it without pins/buttons.

Nagu näha, nööpe (veel pole), sellepärast on selle asemel nõel.
As you can see, there are (yet) no buttons, that is why the wrap is pinned.

Kui see ära kuivab, tuleb ostad ära peita ja otsida nööpe. Korralikud pildid tulevad kunagi hiljem, sest pean mõneks ajaks ära sõitma.
Once it is dry, the ends should be weaved in and I will have to get buttons. Proper pictures later because I have to travel away.

Kasvab/It is growing

Hõlmik kasvab. Ei tea, kas varrukad tulevad ka, sõltub sellest, kui palju lõnga jääb ja milline on värvijaotus. Muster lähemalt:

Now the front halves are held together with the needle. Afterwards there will be a button or two on the side, depending on what is available in stores.

The stitch pattern will become beautiful and well-defined after washing, this is a feature of this yarn. In the bottom there will be some rows in garter stitch.
