Nüüd on kiire aeg, teeme veel ettevalmistusi. Aga Postimees on meid märganud ja paigutanud ühe pildi. See on kevadiste piltide sarjast, kui oli hästi kiire ja pidime korraldajatele näitama vähemalt midagi.
It is a busy time now, we are still doing preparations. But Postimees (one of the largest Estonian daily papers) has noticed us and uploaded a picture of ours. The pictures is one of the spring series when we had very little time and had to show the organizers at least something.

Kudum kasvab/The knit is growing

Kasvab küllalt aeglaselt, aga siiski kere on juba valmis. Alustasin varrukat.
It is growing slowly but the torso is already finished. I have started the sleeve.

Üht ja teist/Various matters

Uus kudum on valmis, aga pildistamine tuleb hiljem, sest ei õnnestu kuidagi õiget värvi kätte saada. Siin on proovilapp, antud juhul on õige värv, kuigi punased on ka kapriissed.

The project is finished but photos will be taken later because it is difficult to render the right colour. Here is a swatch, in this case the colour is true, although reds can be moody.

Käsitöö 2012 Kevad/Käsitöö magazine Spring 2012

Värskes Käsitöö numbris on kolm minu kudumit. Esimesel fotol on nn Eksperimentaalhõlmik.

There are three knits of mine in the fresh issue of the Käistöö magazine. The first photo features so-called Experimental Wrap.

Siin on mohääri-meriino tuunika. All on kontrastne top, muster paistab kenasti.

Here is the tunic from mohair and merino held together. The model is wearing a top in contrasting colours and the sitch pattern shows nicely. 

Ja siin on Katariina-nimeline jakk.

Selles numbris on päris huvitav arutlus käsitöö hinnast, aga ka traditsioonilisi lugusid moeajaloost, eesti ehetest jms.

There is a rather interesting discussion in the current issue about handicraft prices and also some traditional stories about fashion history, Estonian jewelry etc.

Lõng ei ole veel otsas!/The yarn is not going to end!

Lõng ei taha lõppeda! Ostsin 200 g, arvasin, et kui on vaja, ostan juurde. Nüüd on aga selge, et sellest tuleb tuunika või isegi lühike kleit. Värvid on õhtuses valguses täiesti valed, aga raamaturiiuli taustal on ettekujutus pikkusest.

The yarn is not going to end! I bought 200 g and thought that I would buy more, if needed. However, it is clear by now that it will become a tunic or a short dress. The colours are completely wrong in the evening light but the shelf as a background helps to imagine the length.

Lõnga on alles niipalju, et jääk mahub mulle pihku. Aga sellest tuleb veel kümmekond sentimetrit.
This is about how much yarn I have, it fits into my palm. But this will be enough for some ten centimetres.

Vahepealne/In-between

Täna koome Avega koos. Tema korteris on palju päikest, mõtlesime, et saaks paar pilti teha ja näidata, mis seisus on sviiter. Ave, tänan pildistamast!

Today we are knitting together with Ave. Her flat is rather sunny, we decided to take some pictures to show my sweater in progress. Ave, thanks for taking pictures!

Külgvaade. Siin on näha, et alumise ääre sees on varras. Ei ole veel otsustanud pikkuse üle. Kui teine varrukas on valmis,vaatame, kui palju lõnga on alles. Ei ole välistatud, et koon pikemaks.
A side view. Here you can see that there is still the needle in the bottom. I have not decided about the length. Once the second sleeve is finished, we shall see how much yarn I have. It is not impossible that I will make it longer.

Ei mingeid üllatusi/No surprises

Seekord ei mingeid üllatusi: hall sviiter/tuunika. Pärast eksperimente ja lopsakaid mustreid on jälle tahtmine teha midagi minimalistlikku. Lõnga sain Tartu mnt poest Wool and Woollen. Nimega Houston, poolenisti polüamiid, ülejäänud on vill ja alpaka. Näeb välja nagu mohäär, kuid pole karvane.

No surprises this time: a gray sweater/tunic. After experimenting and busy stitch patterns I want to make something minimalist. I got the yarn in Tartu road yarn shop Wool and Woollen. The yarn is called Houston, half polyamide and the other half wool and alpaca. It looks like mohair, only without being hairy.

Minimalism minimalismiks, kuid mõni väike detail on ka. Keskel jookseb pahempidiste riba.

It may be minimalism all right but a small detail added. You see a stripe of purl stitches in the middle.

 Varsti hakkan varrukadi kuduma, seekord pole mul kahtlust, et tuleb pikk varrukas. Varruka keskel on samasugune pahempidine riba.
I will soon start the sleeves and this time I have no doubts that these will be long sleeves. In the middle of the sleeve there is the same stripe of purl stitches.

Mitte veel päriselt valmis/Not yet finished

Ei ole veel päriselt valmis, aga liigub juba lõpu suunas.

Valgel ajal olen enamasti kodunt ära, sellepärast pildid ongi sellised . Värvist ei saa aru, aga üldvaade olemas. Loodan valmis saada veel selle aasta sees.
I am mostly away from home during the light time, this is why the pictures are as they are. Not quite right colours but just a general view. I hope to finish it this year.

Ootamatu/Unexpected

Ootasin, et lõngast tuleks välja väike kimono varrukaga sviiter, aga ootamatult tuli tuunika! Metraaži poolest oli mohääri rohkem (3 tokki e. 750 m), meriinot vähem (2 tokki e. 700 m). Sellepärast orienteerusin meriino järgi. Kasutasin ära peaaegu kogu meriino. Peaaegu, kuna mustrikord on päris kõrge ja kartsin, et võib-olla ei jätku. Kanda saab mitut moodi, mida pildid näitavadki.

I was expecting that it will be enough yarn to make a small kimono-sleeved sweater but quite unexpectedly I ended up with a tunic! Speaking of metrage, I had more mohair (3 balls or 750 m) and less merino (2 balls or 700 m). That is why merino was decisive. I used up almost all merino. Almost, because the pattern repeat is rather high and I was afraid it will not be enough to end it. The tunic is wearable in a variety of ways, as you can see in the pictures.

Aga sellest tuleb tuunika või kleit. Võrdluseks on pandud aluskleit, mida kootud kleitidega kasutan. Nagu näha, on vaja veel kududa. Suurendasin silmuste arvu ühekorraga kolmandiku võrra. Tundub, et on paras.
But it will be a tunic or a dress. For the sake of comparison, beneath is an underdress that I use with knitted dresses. As you can see, I have to knit more. I increased the number of stitches at once by 1/3. It appears all right.

Üllatus nr. 1/Surprise no. 1

Vahepeal tegelesin üllatuskudumitega. Nüüd näitan ühte neist. Meanwhile I was busy with surprise knitting. Now I am showing one of them.

Krae on tegelikult rõngassall, on ära võetav, võib pähe panna.

The collar is in fact a remowable cowl and you can wear it on your head.

Ka ilma selleta on võimalik.

It is possible to do without it altogether.

Ei saanud kudumit näidata, kuna see oli disain Gabriella tellimusel ungari väljaande jaoks. Lõngad on Gabriella firmast Barka Fonal.

I could not show the garment because it was designed on Gabriella's request for a Hungarian knitting publication. The yarn comes from Gabriella's firm Barka Fonal.

Lõng ei taha lõppeda/The yarn is not going to end

Mõnikord on probleem, et lõng lõpeb otsa valel ajal vales kohas. Kuid seekord on lugu nii, et lõng ei taha lõppeda, seetõttu on top muutunud tuunikaks ja võib-olla muutub pealegi kleidiks!
Sometimes there is a risk of running out of yarn in a wrong time and in a wrong place. However, now the thing is that the yarn is not going to end, therefore, the top has turned into a tunic and the tunic will perhaps turn into a dress!

Veel uudiseid: eile käisin üle hulga aja Pronksi poes. Ja seal oli ka muid kudujaid ja me otsustasime, et teeme kudumisklubi. Nii et ettevõtlik Kersti tegigi klubile leheküle. Klubi käib koos laupäeviti alates kl 11, kes kuidas jõuab. Mul on hea meel!
And more news: yesterday I went to the Pronksi shop after quite a long break. And there were knitters there and we decided to establish a knitting club. So energetic Kersti made this site for the club. The club meets on Saturdays starting from 11 o'clock and you can come as you can make it. I am glad!

Tuunika/The tunic

Täna õnnestus mul lõpuks pildistada mohäärituunika omaniku seljas.
Finally, it was possible to take pictures of the mohair tunic with the owner as a model.

Omanik teeb ise ehteid ja kee sobib suurepäraselt tuunikaga kokku.
The owner makes jewelry and the necklace fits perfectly with the tunic.

Seekord olin mina pildistaja rollis.

Jälle lehed/Leaves again

Tuunika on valmis, aga pole pildistajat. Loodan, et saan varsti näidata omaniku seljas. Nüüd aga traditsiooniline aknapilt, paistab ka naabriaed sügisvärvides.
The tunic is finished but I have no photographer. I hope to be able to get a picture of the owner modelling it. Now just a traditional window picture where you can see the neighbour's garden in autumn colours.

Täna hommikul valisin pikalt mustrit. Plaanis on kududa pitsisall Raasiku 8/1-st. Asi pole ainult selles, et muster sobiks lõngaga, vaid kuna tuleb kokku sobitada mitu mustrit, on parasjagu aritmeetikat. Kudusin juba 2,5 mustrikorda, nii et nüüd on tulemas heledam värvitoon:
Today in the morning I was busy choosing a lace pattern. I plan to knit a lace scarf from Raasiku 8/1. It is not only about choosing a pattern that goes together with the yarn but, as there will be a couple of patterns, it is also about arithmetic. I have 2.5 pattern repeats so far and a lighter shade is coming:

Ja niipalju on juba kootud. Mulle kohe istub väga see muster!

Jätkan tellimust, mis vahepeal pooleli jäi. Mohäärituunikat nimelt.
I am continuing the order that had been put aside for a while. Namely, the mohair tunic.

Nagu näha, mul on valmis kere ja osa ühest varrukast.
As you can see, I have the torso part and a part of one sleeve so far.

Mohääri kududes tekib kohe tahtmine teha "aknapilte".
When I work with mohair, I always want to take "window pictures".

Tean, et see on reeglite vastu, kuid ometi selles on midagi. Võib-olla keegi oskab seletada, miks need pildid pole nii väga võimatud?
I know that this is against the rules but there is something to it. Maybe someone can explain why it works?

Südasuvi/Midsummer

Valmis! Täna on ilus ilm, tõeline suvi, sellepärast ongi selline nimi.
Finished! Today the weather is nice, it is a real summer, that explains the name.

The yarn does not stretch after wash. Moistening is needed because afterwards the lace pattern looks right.
