Jälle sama/The same again

Kõik teavad juba, et mulle meeldib kududa sama asja teisest lõngast vms. Pildil on uus hakatis.
Everyone already knows that I like knitting the same design from different yarns etc. Here is a new beginning.

Värv pole õige, tegelikult on alumine sviiter täiesti must ja hakatis tumehall. Umbes kuu aega tagasi proovisin kududa seda mustrit peenikesest mohäärist ja üsna peenikesest villasest. Polnud viga, aga samas polnud õige tunne. Siis lisasin nüüd veel ühe peenvillase, nüüd on kolm lõnga koos ja paistab, et edeneb.
The colours are not right, actually, the sweater in the bottom is completely black and the beginning is dark grey. Approximately a month ago I tried to knit this pattern from thin mohair and rather thin wool. It was kind of fine but something felt not right. So I added another strand of laceweight wool and now there are three yarns held together and it seems working.

Rätiku algus/Beginning of a shawl

Koos on Adele's Mohair Extra Fine ja peenike meriino. Mohäär on väga pehme ja suhteliselt karvane, nii et tundub, et muster on näha vastu valgust või kaugelt vaadates. Aga pole hullu, kudumine on mõnus. Konstruktsioonist kirjutan hiljem, kui on rohkem näidata.
Adele's Mohair Extra Fine is combined with laceweight merino. Mohair is very soft and relatively hairy, so it seems that one can see the pattern only against light or looking from a distance. But this is not a problem, it knits up nicely. I will write about the construction when I will have more to show.

Proovilapp/Swatch

Kombineerin lõngu, et saada tumehalli. Must on linase ja polüestri segu 100 g/280 m (Bodrum, Alize) ja tumehall on tundmatu peenvillane (oletan, et 100 g/1400-1500 m).
I am combining yarns in order to obtain dark grey. The black yarn is linen-polyester blend 200 g/280 (Bodrum, by Alize) and the dark grey one is unknown laceweight wool (100 g/1400-1500 m, I presume).

Tellimus/Comission

Koon oversized sviitrit vanast heast kombinatsioonist Angora 2 + Haapsalu.
I am making an oversized sweater from a good old yarn combination Angora 2 + Haapsalu.

 

Kuidas lõng mõjutab üldmuljet/How different yarns create different mood

Tegin selle mustriga esimese sviitri Teksrena villasest (100 g/350 m). Lõng sobib selge joonega mustriteks (rombid, diagonaalid vms), reljeefsed mustrid aga "kaovad". Pseudopalmik oli sobiv lahendus.
I made the first sweater with this pattern from Teksrena wool (100 g/350 m). The yarn is suitable for patterns with clear outline (diamonds, diagonals etc), while textured pattern "disappear". A mock cable was a right solution.

Teine on peenemast lõngast, meriino-nailoni segu (100 g/400 m). See lõng sobib ka mõningateks reljeefseteks mustriteks. Pseudo-palmik on üsna nähtav ja pole ainult aimatav nagu eelmise sviitri puhul. Kannan seda üsna palju.
The second is from a thinner yarn, merino-nylon blend 8100 g/400 m). The yarn is suitable for certian textured patterns. The mock cable is quite visible, unlike in the previous sweater where it is just a hint. It gets a lot of wear.

Kolmas on mohääri-nailoni segu + peenike meriino. Minu arust ei kõlba see mohäärilõng sviitriteks ilma kaaslaseta, on liiga kerge. Tulemus on vastu valgust vaadates läbipaistev, kuid samas on muster üsna konkreetne ja hästi nähtav.
The third is a mohair-nylon blend + laceweight merino. In my view, this mohair is not suitable for sweaters without a companion, it is too light. The result is transparent when you look against the light, yet the pattern has a good definition and is quite visible.

Tegemisi/What is going on.

Koon praegu tutava mustriga salli. Lõngad on peenike meriino Merinos Extra (BBB), 100 g/1500 m ja Kid Mohair (BBB), 25 g/250 m, vardad 4,5 mm.
I am knitting a scarf with a familiar pattern. The yarns are laceweight merino Merinos Extra (BBB), 100 g/1500 m and Kid Mohair (BBB), 25 g/250 m, needles 4.5 mm.

Varsti saab valmis poolpatentkoes ja kontrastsetest lõngadest salli retsept. Muster ise on lihtne, rohkem jutu on lõngade kombineerimisest.
I will soon release a recipe for half-brioche stitch in contrasting yarns. The pattern is easy, I mostly discuss yarn combinations.

2018.a. viimane sall/The last scarf of 2018

Jõudsin lõpetada vana aasta sees. Olen selle salliga väga rahul. Kavatsen kirjutada retsepti. Iseenesest pole siin midagi keerulist, aga oluline on just lõngade kombineerimine.
I managed to complete it within 2018. I am quite satisfied with the scarf. There will be a pattern recipe. In and by itself there is nothing complicated but the main point is yarn combination.

Jääkidest sall/Leftovers scarf

Mul on järel kahekordselt keritud peenikest Astro mohääri (100 g/1000 m, kahekordsena siis 100 g/500 m) ja Twin-nimelist meriinot (100 g/800 m). Panin kokku, vardad 5,5 mm, alustasin endale augulist salli.
I have some thin mohiar Astro, wound two strands toghether (100 g/1000 m, held double means 100 g/500 m) and Twin-named merino (100 g/800 m). I put them together, needles 5.5 mm, and started a scarf with holes for myself.

Edeneb kiirest, muster on juba tuttav. Tuleb üsna soe sall. Mul tekis mõte, kuidas seda mustrit veel modifitseerida, aga siis teen juba teise salli siledamast lõngast.
It is progressing quickly, the pattern is quite familiary. It will be a rather warm scarf. I have an idea of some modifications of the pattern but this will be another scarf from a smooth yarn.

Jälle sall/Scarf again

Mul on kaks poolpatentkoes salli teravate otstega. Kootud paar aastat tagasi. Eelmisel aastal tegin veel ühe kolleegile kingituseks.
I have two scarves with pointed ends in half-brioche stitch. I made them a couple of years ago. Last yer I made one more as a present to my colleague.

 

Praegu on töös selline sall (mitte midagi erilist, laius on kogu aeg sama). Lõngad on Angora 2 ja peenike villane. Kogu saladus ongi selles, et üks lõng on jämedam ja kontrastne on päris peenike. Eelmisete sallide puhul on põhilõng mingi sokilõng või poolvillane.
Now I have this scarf on my needles (nothing special, the width is constant). The yarns are Angora 2 and laceweight wool. This is the whole secret: one yarn is heavier and the contrasting yarn is quite thin. The previous scarf have sockyarn or wool-blend as the main yarn.

Poolpatent/Half-brioche stitch

Poolpatentkude on üks lemmikmustreid.
Half-brioche stitch is one of my favourite patterns.

Pildil ei paista, aga koos on keskmine hall Angora-2 ja hästi tumesinine peenvillane. Üldmulje on pigem tumehall.
The picture does not reveal that it is a combination of Angora-2 and a very dark blue laceweight wool. A general impression is rather dark-grey.

Sviiter sügiseks/A sweater for autumn

Oleks vaja sviitrit, mis oleks pikkade varrukatega, aga poleks hirmsoe, midagi üleminekuhooajaks. Nagu kirjutasin eelmises postituses, käisin Diteksases ja tegin mitmeid proovilappe. Mulle meeldis üks must-hall peenike lõng, panin kokku erinevate lõngadega ja lõpuks peatusin poolvillasel. Too poolvillane on  umbes 100 g/600 m. Vastu valgust pildistades tundub, et kude on läbipaistev, tegelikult ei ole. Viimistlesin ära kaeluse ja alustan varsti varrukaid.
I need a sweater with long sleeves but not terribly warm, something for transitional seasons. As I mentioned in the previous post, I visited Diteksas and made several swatches. I liked a certain black-and-gray thin yarn and combined it with various yarns and finally opted for a wool-polyamide blend. The blend is about 100 g/600 m. If you photograph against the light, the fabric appears transparent but in fact it is not. I finished the neck opening and will start sleeves soon.

Vahepealne/In-between

Tavaliselt pole mul mitut pooleli kudumit, aga nüüd on selline olukord, et tuleb tellijale selga proovida enne, kui jätkata saab (sest see on just kõige olulisem hetk, kui on vaja kaenla all ühendada). Kuna vahel oli terve nädalavahetus, ei saa ma kudumata olla, seda enam, et oma aega ootab üks peenike meriinolõng,
Usually I don't have several unfinished knits at the same time but now it is a situation when the cliend should try the garment on before I can go on with  it (because it is the most improtant moment when it is time to join the back and the front pieces under the arms). Whereas the whole weekend was ahead of me, I could not be not knitting, especially when a  merino laceweight yarn was sitting and waiting.

Meriino on 100 g/800 m üleminekuvärvidega, üksinda tundus mulle liiga lörr, mulle meeldib selgema struktuuriga koepind. Aga sellest topist on järel linase ja viskoosi segu, 100 g/400 m. Nii et panin nad kokku. Seda enam, et meriino värv läheb sujuvalt mustast valgeks ja mulle ei meeldi puhas valge värv, las tal olla kontrastne kaaslane.
Merino is 100 g/800 m in gradient colours; when knitted alone, it is too "liquid" for my taste, I like more structured fabrics. But I have some linien-rayon blend from this top, 100 g/400 m. So I put the two together. Especially in the view that the colour of merino is going from black to white and I don't like white, so let it have a contrasting partner.

Siin pole veel eriti näha, aga juba algab tumehall sektsioon. Varras 5 mm, suured augud.
It is not yet visible but a dark-grey section is begininning. I am using 5 mm needles and the holes are quite large.

Tulemas/Coming up

Instagramis ja Facebookis meeldisid hiljutise topi pildid üsna paljudele, sain ilusaid kommentaare, aitäh! Praegu ei saa veel avaldada, mis on töös, aga näitan vähemalt lõngu.
The recent top pictures got lot of likes nice comments and likes on Instagram and Facebook, thank you! I cannot reveal yet what is coming up but I can show you my yarns at least.

 

Juba näete, et see on suurepärane kombinatsioon, kui tahta midagi sooja: Raasiku (Aade Lõng) 8/2 ja Angora 2. Kui on kokku keritud, tundub, justkui oleks tviid või pisut säbruline lõng. Reljeefse koe jaoks väga hea kooslus. Usun, et sama hea oleks Angora 2 + Teksrena villane.
As you see, it is a perfect combination if you want something warm: Raasiku (Aade Lõng) 8/2 and Angora 2. When wound together, it looks like tweed or a slight melange. A very good combo for textured knit. I believe Angora 2 + Teksrena wool would be as good.

Jälle vanad jäägid/Old leftovers again

Mul oli üks rätik, kus koos on tundmatu peenike meriino (ostetud Vilniuse kaltsukast, kus müüakse ka poolidel lõngu) ja leedu Biržai linane. Värv oli minu jaoks liiga plass. Harutasin, panin juurde peenikese musta puuvillase. Katsetasin nii ja naa, vahepeal tekkis paar rätiku ideed, aga ilmselt mitte sellele lõngale. Antud juhul otsustasin vana hea poolpatendi kasuks.
I had a shawl that was a combination of unknown laceweight merino (bought at a second hand store in Vilnius where they sell some yarns on cones) and Lithuanian linen from Biržai factory. The colour was too bleak for me. I frogged it and added thin black cotton. I tried out various options and meanwhile got some ideas for shawls but probably not of this yarn combo. In this case I opted for the good old half-brioche.

Salli lõngade kohta lubasin kirjutada. Siin on link Ravelry projektile (nähtav kõigile), kõik kombinatsioonid on kirjas. Sallide ja rätikute jaoks võib julgelt kombineerida palju peenikesi lõngu, erineva värvi ja/või faktuuriga lõngu (peenvillased, mohäärid ja sokilõngad sobivad suurepäraselt), võib kududa jämedama vardaga (antud juhul 6 mm).
I promised to write about the yarns I used for the scarf. Here is the link to my project on Ravelry (visible to all), all yarn combinations are there. You can be bold and combine many thin yarns for  scarves and shawls; the yarns can be of different colours and/or fibers (laceweight wool, mohair and sock yarns fit perfectly) and you can use thicker needles (6 mm in this case).

Natuke pilte/Some pictures

Sall on kuiv. Pesemata ja pingutamata olid mõõdud 30 cm x 195 cm, pärast niisutamist ja pingutamist aga 40 cm x 256 cm!
The scarf is dry. Prior to blocking the size was 30 cm x 195 cm, after moistening and blocking 40 cm x 256 cm!

 

 

Täna kuidagi ei õnnestunud leida pildistamiskohta, et värvide üleminekud oleksid selged. Valgus on praegu muide väga ilus, aga millegipärast tundub enamasti suhteliselt ühtlane värv. Kui õnnestub teha veel pilte, kirjutan hiljem lõngadest. Kokku segatud on üsna palju, töös korraga 3-4 lõnga, kui üks kombinatsioon otsa sai, jätkasin teisega.
Somehow I did not manage to find today a place to take photos so that the colour transitions would be visible. The light is quite beautiful but for some reason the pictures give impression of a relatively homogenous colour throughout. If I succeed in taking more pictures, I will write more about the yarns. It is quite a mixture, I hold 3-4 strands together and after having run out of one combination I organized the next one.

Midagi jääkidest/Something from leftovers

On suur hulk igasuguseid jääke.
I have a large quantity of all kind of leftovers.

Mõtlesin, et kombineerin, panen kokku 3-4 lõnga, peenvillaste abil reguleerin, et jämedus oleks enam-vähem ühesugune, teen rätiku või salli. Proovisin nii ja naa ja praegu tundub, et see muster on paras.
I thought to combine yarns, joining 3-4 strands and by the means of laceweight wool to achieve more or less similar gauge and to make a shawl or a scarf. I tried this and that and it appears now that this pattern is the right one.

Mõni lugeja mäletab ehk, et suvel tegin selle mustriga salli linasest lõngast, ja et abikaasa võttis selle endale. Nii et on põhjust jälle kududa.
Some of my readers might remember that I made a linen scarf in the pattern this summer and that my husband appropriated it. So now I have another reason to make one.

Jälle rätik jääkidest/A shawl from leftovers again

Jakk on peaaegu valmis, vaja on veel kududa alumist riba pärlkoes. Kuna pean mitmeks päevaks ära sõitma, otsustasin, et ei võta suurt ja peaaegu valmis kudumit kaasa. Selle asemel harutasin ühe vana sviitri Dropsi Fabelist (sokilõng) ja lisasin peenikest mohääri. Vaatasin nii ja naa ja sain aru, et sobib kõige lihtsam kude.
The cardi is almost done, I just have to add the bottom edge in moss stitch. As I have to go away for several days, I decided not to drag along the large and almost finished knit. Instead I ripped an old sweater from Drops Fabel (sockyarn) and added some thin mohair. I tried various options and realized that the simplest pattern is the best.

 

Leedust toodud mohäär/Mohair I brought from Lithuania

See on mustjashall, haruldane värv, täiesti minu unistus. Mohäär on üsna peenike, mõtlesin esialgu kokku panna mõne peenvillasega, aga ka siis selgus, et on ikka hõre. Siis võtsin mohääri kahekordselt ja lisasin ühe peenikese poolvillase lõnga. Vahepeal kartsin, et on äkki liiga paks koepind, aga vist mitte. Nüüd on alustatud teine varrukas ja allapoole tuleb veel ka kududa.
This is greyish black, a seldom colour, totally my dream. The mohair is rather thin and in the beginning I intended to combine it with some laceweight wool but then it came out it was too loose. Then I took two strands of mohair and laceweight half-wool half-polyamide yarn. Meanwhile I feared that it may be too thick but now I think it is fine. The second sleeve started and I have to work on torso some more.

 

 

Saaremaale/To the island of Saaremaa

Täna lähen kaheks päevaks Saaremaale. Tuuleluud lõngapoe perenaine kutsus mind lahkesti õpetama kohalikele kudujatele õmblusteta kudumite konstrueerimist. Alustme põhikonstruktsioonist, siis vaatame, mida arutame edasi. Rätikute konstrueerimise teema jääb seekord ära.
Today I am going for a two day trip to the island of Saremaa. The owner of a local yarnstore Tuuleluud kindly invited me to teach my methods of seamless knits construction to the local knitters. We shall start from the basic construction and then see what we discuss later. Shawl constructions are not to be considered this time.

Töös on lihtne kolme lõnga sviiter. Ülemisel pildil on heledam värv (õige värv alumisel pildil), aga on näha, et on kerge melanž (kolmest lõngast on üks tumehall, kaks mustad). Kirjutn veel sellest lõngakombinatsioonist eraldi.
I am working on a simple sweater from three yarns. In the top picture the colour is lighter than in reality (the true colour is in the bottom picture) but you can notice a light mélange (one of the three yarns is dark grey and the rest are black). I am going to write a separate post on this yarn combination.
