Seriaali uus osa/A new episode of the series

Seriaal nimega "Anna koob rätikut", järgmine osa. Muster on küll ilus, aga lõng on kapriisne, libe, lõheneb, silmused on ebaühtlased. Muidugi võib heietada, et miks see lõng pole selline nagu Raasiku villane (samahästi võib heietada, miks külmkapp ei tööta kohvimasinana ka). Aga sellest pole kasu, tuleb teha midagi, mis sellele lõngale meeldib. Vana hea poolpatendis asümmeetriline rätik paistab olevat sobiv variant. Midagi uut ja huvitavat arendame lemmiklõngadest.
The series "Anna is knitting a shawl" continues, the current episode is on. The stitch pattern is quite nice but the yarn is moody, slippery, splitty, the stitches are uneven. Of couse one can lament why this yarn is not like wool produced in Raasiku (in the same spirit one can lament why a refridgirator does not work as a coffee machine as well). But this gives you nothing, you have to come up with something the yarn likes. Good old asymmetrical shawl in half-brioche stitch appears to be a suitable option. I will do something new and exciting from my favourite yarns.

Jälle otsast peale/Starting all over again

Jah, rõõmustasin liiga vara. Sest kui koepind oli piisavalt suur, ei olnud see ilus. Ääred hakkasid tohutult rulli minema. Lõng on väga kapriisne. Siis mõtlesin, et pean ju midagi välja mõtlema! Olen praegu välismaal, muidu oleks juba lisanud mõnda peenikest lõnga ja vaadanud, kuidas see mõjub.
I rejoyced too early indeed. Because when the fabric became sufficiently large, I saw it was not nice. The edges curled quite strongly. The yarn is rather moody. Then I thought I have to come up with something in any case! I am abroad now, otherwise I would have tried to add some thin yarn and seen the result.

Selline lihtne kude. Selles koes on see sall, aga endale tahan teravate otstega.
This kind of simple stitch pattern. I have made this scarf in the pattern but I want one with pointed ends.

 

Kude on üsna reljeefne. Aga tuleb arvestada, et pärast pesu venib pikkusesse, kuna on auguline.
The fabric is textured. But one has to take into account that after washing it will stertch in the length because the pattern has eyelets.

Mida ma tahtsin ja mis lõpuks välja tuleb/What I wanted and what will eventually become of it

Mulle meeldis, kuidas eelmine rätik välja kukkus. Mõtlesin, et teen jääkides sama konstruktsiooniga lihtsa rätiku. Mäletate seda sviitrit?
I liked how the previous shawl came out. I intended to do a simple shawl with the same construction from leftover yarns. Do you remember this sweater?

Seda lõnga (tallevillast 100 g/370 m) on mul veel u 67 g, on veel muidki jääke. Proovisin nii ja naa, tahtsin teha ripskoes suure vardaga, nagu eelmise rätiku puhul. Kude polnud üldse ilus. Lõng on pehme, samas libe ja ei taha mingit mustrit, isegi ripsi mitte. Labases koes aga tundus kuidagi igav. Kui teha labases koes, siis peenemast õhulisemast lõngast. Mis teha, see lõng pole Aade Lõng 8/1!
I have about 67 g of this yarn (kid wool 100 g/370 m) and some other leftovers. I tried i many ways, I wanted to make it in garter stitch with large needles like I made the previous ones. The fabric was not nice at all. The yarn is soft and slippery at the same time and does not tolerated any stitch patterns, not even garter stitch. Stockinette seemed somehow uninteresting. If I were to make this in stockinette, then I would choose a thinner and more airy yarn. Cannot help it, this yarn is not Aade Lõng 8/1.

See muster on peaaegu sama, nagu selle rätiku oma. Aga pisut teine kalkulatsioon, sest kasvatuste skeem on teistsugune.
This is almost the same pattern as in this shawl. But the calculation is somewhat different because the priciple of increases differs.

Vaatame, mis välja tuleb. Igatahes rätikute konstrueerimise tunni õppematerjal täieneb.
We shall see how it evolves. In any case the teaching material for my shawl construction course will get some new items.

Puhas eksperiment/Pure experiment

Nagu eelmises postituses kirjutasin, oli mul kaks võimalust, kuidas jätkata. Otsustasin n-ö puhta eksperimendi kasuks, ei hakanud lühikesi ridu tegema. Tulemuseks on lihtne väike rätik, saab vabalt  ümber kaela keerata ja otsad on pikad. Peenvillasest tegi vaid 3-4 rida lõpuks, tuli kontrastne äär.
As I mentioned in the previous post, I had two options how to go on. I decided in favour of pure experiment, so to speak, and did not introduce short rows. As a result I got a small shawl that is sufficient to twine around the neck and to have long ends. I added only 3-4 rows in the end in the laceweight wool and got an edge in a contrasting colour.

Siin pildil on hästi näha kuju. Ja all on juba korralikumad pildid. Kunagi loodan, et saab ka minu kaelas pildistada.
In this picture you get a pretty good idea about the shapw. And below there are better pictures. I hope that some day it will be possible to get modelled photos.

Saab juba korra ümber kaela keerata, aga otsad on veel lühikesed. Sellel pildil on umbes pool rätikut.
I can wind it once around my neck but the ends are still too short. The picture displays approximately a half of the shawl.

Lõnga on veel mingil määral. Kui otsa saab, plaanin võtta musta peenvillast, mis on enam-vähem sama jämedusega. Aga siis on kaks võimalust: kas jätkata sama kasvatuste rütmiga või tekitada lühikesi ridu, et pikendada otsi kiiremini. Võib teha nii ja naa. Eksperimendi puhtuse mõttes võiks jätkata samamoodi (ei, see ei ole sama kasvatuste skeem, nagu sellel ja sellel rätikul), aga lühikesed read oleksid huvitavamad.
I have a little bit more of this yarn. When I will run out of it, I will continue with black laceweight wool that is approximately of the same weight. Then there are two options: to continue the same system of increases or to make short rows in order to get longer ends faster. It is possible to do both ways. For the sake of purity of the experiment it is possible to continue in the same manner (no, this is not the same increase system as here and here), but short rows are more entertaining.

Otsast peale/From the beginning

Mõnikord on nii, et kood ja kõik oleks nagu kena, muster ja lõng sobib, aga endal on kuidagi ebahuvitav. Nii juhtus ka seekord. Nii et otsustasin alustada hoopis teise koe ja teise konstruktsiooniga rätikut.
Sometimes it happens that you knit and eveything seems to be allright, the pattern and the yarn are compatible, yet it feels somehow uninteresting. This is what happened this time. So I decided to start a shawl in a different stitch and with a different costruction.

Viimasel ajal märkasin, et kui ripskoes kududa suure vardaga, siis on hoopis teine efekt. Koon nüüd 5 mm-ga. Vaatame, kui suureks rätikuks lõnga jätkub. Aga alati saab juurde võtta  sama jämedusega musta peenvillast või mohääri.
Recently I've noticed that knitting garter stitch with large needles yields a different effect altogether. Now I am knitting with 5 mm needles. We shall see what size I will finally get. But it is always possible to do the final section in black wool of the same weight or with mohair.

Vahepeal/Meahnwhile

Mõtlen järgmise suurema kudumi peale, aga vahepeal võtsin välja sel suvel Saksamaal hangitud lõnga.
I am thinking about the next bigger knitting project but meanwhile I took out the yarn I purchased this summer in Germany.

Praegu toodavad paljud firmad üleminekulõnga. Tihti on aga nii, et kõige heledam värv on valge, mida ma ei taha. Antud juhul on rahulikud üleminekud mitte kõige heledamast hallist mustani. Lõng on meriino 50 g/400 m, seda on mul üks tokk. Proovisin, aga minu maitse järgi on liiga lödi (see on tihti peenikeste meriinode omadus). Seega panin juurde peenikest puuvillast (nime ei mäleta, aga u 100 g/1400 m või sinnapoole).
Nowadays many firms manufacture variegated yarns. Quite often they contain white as the lightest colour, which I don't like. In this case the transitions are not so contrasting between not the lightest gray and black. The yarn is merino 50 g/400 m and I have one ball of it. I tried it but to my taste it is too soft (this is often quite usual for thin merino yarns). Thus, I combined it with a thin cotton (don't remembe the name but the metrage is about 100 g/1400 m).

Selline rätiku konstruktsioon meeldib mulle praegu kõige rohkem (lühikeste ridade rätikuks ei ole mul vastavas jämeduses ja sarnase faktuuriga sobivat lõnga, et lisada).
Now I like the best this shawl construction (for a short rows shawl I don't have enough yarn in the same weight and texture to combine with).
