Meanwhile I had absolutely no time to knit and to write. Still, there is something that I can show.
The colour is more or less true.
Mulle meeldib see viis, mida nimetatakse backward-loop cast-on. Väga hea seletus on selles blogis.
I promised to talk about technical matters in connection with linen. Some yarns are such that you have to cast-on loosely, for instance, mohair and also linen. Maybe it depends also on construction, stitch pattern and what you are knitting. I like backward-loop cast-on. A very clear explanation can be found on this blog.
However, sometimes you need a more stable and solid edge for a a part of the same knitted garment. For instance, in this top, I casted on in the mentioned loose way and knitted the back piece from the shoulder "seam" (the blue line) to the armholes, then I picked up stitches for the front pieces and knitted them from the shoulder line downwards, then I had to join them in order to get a rectangular-shaped neck. In order to do this you have to knit one front piece, cast-on new stitches (red line) and knit the second front piece.
Küsimus on selles, mis viisil luua need uued silmused. Minu kogemuse järgi sobib siin linase lõnga puhul jäigem loomisviis, muidu järgmist rida kududes venivad uued silmused välja üsna kergesti. Seega: võta uued vardad ja uus lõngajupp, loo kahe lõngaga (long-tail cast-on), koo läbi esitüki silmused, ühenda lõng ja koo läbi uued silmused ja siis edasi teise esitüki silmused. Huvitav, et villase lõngaga kududes pole seda trikki vaja (vähemalt minule), võin luua n-ö lõdval viisil.
The question is how to cast-on the new stitches. In my experience a more stable cast-on is suitable here for a linen yarn, otherwise in the next row the new stitches will easily stretch. Thus, take a new pair of needles and a new piece of yarn, make a long-tail cast-on, knit the first front piece, connect the yarn and knit the new stitches and then the other front piece. It is interesting that you d on't need this trick for wool (at least, I don't), I can cast-on in a loose way.
