Kooskudumise rõõmud/Joys of knitting together
Täna sain kokku Helkaga, kudusime koos kohvikus ning käisime lõngapoes ja raamatupoes. Kui söök sai tellitud, võtsime välja igaüks oma käsitöö ja tegime nalja, et nüüd võib tööle hakata. Pildil koob Helka tõsise näoga pitsirätikut. Arutasime muuhulgas, et reisibürood võiksid teatavaks võtta lõngaturismi kui turismiliiki. Ja siis saaks korraldada rahvusvahelisi kooskudumisi ja eesti keele kursusi kudujatele, et nad oskaks ise lugeda eestikeelseid kudumisõpetusi jms.
Today we met with Helka and knit together in a café and also visited a yarnshop and a bookshop. After having ordered our meals we took our knitting and joked that now we can start working. In the photo Helka is knitting a lace shawl with a serious expression. Among other things we discussed that travel agencies should take into consideration yarn tourism as a tourism type in its own right. And then international knittings together can be organized, not to forget crush courses in Estonian for knitters to be able to read Estonian patterns etc.
Pärast käisime veel Müürivahe tn. Käsitöökambris, kus sõbralik peremees rääkis lõngadest. Helka ostis endale väga ilusat üleminekulõnga hallides toonides (Aade Lõng). Andikvariaadist ostsime vanu "Käsitöid" jms.
Then we went to Käsitöökamber in Müürivahe street where the friendly owner talked about yarns. Helka bought some beautiful variegated yarn in shades of gray (Aade Lõng). In the antique bookshop we got some old Käsitöö magazines etc.
Kudum edeneb. Hakkasin kasvatama, kuid sabu pole veel näha. Sabad ei tule väga teravad: mõtlesin, et kudum pole siiski suvine, kannaks seda võib-olla jakiga ja siis teravad sabad paistavad jaki alt. Loodetavasti homme-ülehomme saan näidata rohkem.
My knitting is progressing. I started increases but the tails are not yet visible. The tails will be not too pointed: I was thinking that the top is not for summer and I might wear it with a jacket and then pointed tails will be visible below the hem line. Hopefully I can show more tomorrow or in a couple of days.

Tumeroheline mohäär jm/Dark-green mohair and other matters
Vabandan pikema vaheaja pärast, tavaliselt, kui olen Eestis, püüan regulaarselt kirjutada. Aga eile ei olnud mahti pilte teha ega mitmel probleemil polnud veel lahendust. Paljudele mainisin kirjavahetuses, et "käed ei taha" kududa suvelõngu. Ega ei pea alati hooaja järgi kuduma. Kui näen ilusat lõnga ja kui mul on vastav idee, siis koon ikka! Nii et käed otsustasid, et kõige sobivam lõng kudumiseks on mohäär. Mul on parajasti tumerohelist Camelot Lineapiu mohääri.
I appologize for a lengthy pause, usually I try to update regularly when I am in Estonia. However, yesterday I did not have time to take pictures and also several problems lacked solution at that point. I have mentioned to several in private correspondence that "my hands don't want" to knit summer yarns. One is not obliged to knit in accordance with seasons. If I see a beautiful yarn and if I have a matching idea, then I knit it anyway! Thus, my hands decided that the most suitable yarn for knitting at the moment is mohair. I happen to have dark-green Camelot Lineapiu mohair.
Mida ma siis mohäärist kavandasin? Mõtlesin eksperementeerida, kas Mohäärinurgake (s.o. Nurgake-nimeline top, aga mohäärist) oleks võimalik. Mulle siiski ei meeldinud, kuidas kude langes. Nurgake tahaks konkreetsemat kudet, mitte nii hõljuvat. Või eksisin kalkulatsioonis. Igatahes otsustasin, et antud juhul peaks tegema midagi muud. Mõtlesin siis, et teen topi, mis oleks ülevalt Mohääriminimalismi valemi järgi, keskel muster, alt külgedelt "sabad" (ma ei tea, mis on selle praegu väga moes oleva silueti ametlik nimi; "sabad" tekivad siis, kui külgedelt ühtlaselt kasvatada). Selgus siiski, et nii tume intensiivne värv "sööb ära" igasuguse pitsimustri ja palmikul pole eriti mõtet. Seega jääb vana hea "minimalistlik" ülemine osa ja alla tulevad "sabad". Teoreetiliselt peaks sellise kujuga kudum mulle sobima.
What was I planning with mohair? I was thinking about experementing with Nurgake-type top in mohair. Still, I did not like how the fabric draped. Nurgake requires a well-defined fabric and not a fluffy one. Or I miscalculated. In any case I decided that something else should be done. So I thought to knit a top with the top part according to Mohair minimalism formula, a vertical lace pattern in the middle, and "tails" at sides (I don't know what the official name of this currently popular shape is; "tails" are obtained by the means of regular increases at the side seams). Yet it became clear that such a dark intensive colour "eats up" any lacy pattern and cables don't make much sense as well. Thus, it leaves us with good old "minimalism" at the top and "tails" at the bottom. In theory, such a shape would suit me.

Veel midagi huvitavat. Täna saime kokku Helkaga ja käisime koos lõngapoes. Ta hankis Pronksi poest Raasiku ja Jõgeva lõngu. Siis istusime koos, tal ei olnud kudumist kaasas, nii et kudusin ainult mina. Nädalalõpul saame jälle kokku ja siis koome mõlemad.
And something interesting. Today I met with Helka and we went together to a yarn store. She bought at Pronksi some Aade Lõng and Evilla yarns. Then we sat together and, as she had not taken her knitting with her, only I was knitting. On the weekend wi will meet again and will both knit.

Nööbid/Buttons
Korralikke fotosid täna veel ei saa. Põhjus: mu põhifotograaf Anuga ei saanud täna kokku, teine põhifotograaf, tütar, on ära. Siiski, nagu näha, nööbid on juba täitsa olemas. Ostsin nad Liannist, kohe pilk langes selelle nööbisarjale. Koos müüjaga vaatasime veel värve. Sama kujuga oli mitu värvi. Esialgu mõtlesin siia tumesinist, mis pole iseenesest võimatu, aga see oleks liiga domineeriv. Siis vaatasime valget (läbipaistvat), tundus liiga neutraalne. Selline hallikas-klaasjas-läbipaistev tundus kõige õigem.
No decent photos today. The reason: I could not meet Anu today who is my main photographer, the second main photographer, my daughter, is away. Still, as you can see, there are buttons all right! I bought them at Liann yarn shop, my eye caught the whole series immediately. Toghether with the saleswoman we considered several colours. There were several colours with this shape. At first I considered dark blue, which is not impossible as such but which would be too dominate. Then we tried white (transparent), it seemed too neutral. This kind of grayish-glass-like-transparent appeared as the best option.
Nüüd on küsimus, mida edasi kududa. Praegu kerin Evilla 6/1 asfalthalli lõnga, see on rätiku lõng. Üks rätikuidee on olemas. Veel on mul Dropsi Cotton Viscose'i, mõtlesin esialgu proovida uut konstruktsiooni, kuid käsi ei tahtnud jälle kududa puuvillast (olgugi, et viskoosiga pooleks). Siis on muidugi mohääri, võiks ju mõelda Nurgakese mohäärivarianti. Muide, Ravelrys on juba kaks testikudujat. Deena sai täna suurepärase topiga valmis (siin) ja Helena hankis eile lõnga, alustas eile pärastlõunal ja nüüd on top peaaegu valmis (siin). Küll see rõõmustab! Suur tänu! Ametlik õpetus tulemas.

Now the question is what to knit next. Now I am winding Evilla 6/1, asphalt gray shawl yarn. I have an idea for a shawl. Then I have Drops Cotton Viscose, I thought to try out a new construction but my hand refuesed knitting cotton (albeit half cotton half rayon) again. Then of course there is mohair, one can imagine a version of Nurgake-top in mohair. By the way, there are already two testknitters on Ravelry. Deena has made such a beautiful top (here). and Helena bought the yarn yesterday and started yesterday and has almost finished her top (here). This makes me happy! Thanks a lot! Kiitos! Спасибо! Peaaegu valmis/Almost finished
Vest on peaaegu valmis. On vaja veel ära viimistleda käeaugud ja otsida õiged nööbid. Ei tea, kas leian.
The vest is almost finished. I have to finish the armholes and to find right buttons. I am not sure whether I will find them.
Kuna kudumis vahelduvad parem- ja pahepidised silmad, on teatud sooniku efekt ja kude tõmbub kokku. Nööbid muidugi parandavad asja. Seni siis mõningaid vaateid siit ja sealt.
While knit and purl stitches alternate, there is a certain ribbing effect and the fabric contracts. Buttons wil improve that. So far some pictures from here and there.

Esialgu mõtlesin, et kaeluse ümber teen riba kahekordses pärlkoes, aga polnud üldse ilus. Tundus, et kuidagi liiga palju erinevaid asju kokku kuhjatud. Seega piirdusin ripskoega.
Initially I planned to knit around the collar some rows in double moss stitch but it was not pretty at all. It seemed that somehow too many different things were piled up. Thus I kept it simple and opted for garter stitch.

Pakk Soomest/A package from Finland
Täna sain väga armsa paki Soomest. Saatja on AnniKainen. Lugu oli nimelt selline, et ta palus oma blogis nimetada 3 parimat kudumisraamatut (vastajate arvates, muidugimõista) ja seletada, miks. Päris huvitav küsitlus, annab ülevaate, kes mida loeb ja tähtsaks peab. Minagi kirjutasin. Vastajate vahel loositi auhind. Ja juhtus nii, et auhinnasaajaks osutusin mina! Lähemalt on lugu siin (soome keeles).
Today I got an especially lovely package from Finland. The sender was AnniKainen. The story is as follows: she had asked in her blog to name 3 best knitting books (according to the respondents, of course) and to explain the choice. It was a rather interesting survey, one gets an overview of what people read and value. I answered as well. Then a lottery was held among the respondents. And it happened that I was the winner! The whol story is to be found here (in Finnish).

AnniKainen, kiitos paljon, se on suloista! Pidän aina blogistasi ja luen sitä mielelläni.Kui juba kirjutada, siis annan aru ka kudumisest. Vest edeneb. Jõudsin taljeni, tegin mõned kahandused külgedel ja nüüd kasvatan jälle. Fotodel on värv vale, küll aga on näha tekstuuri. Esimesel pildil on esitükk, teine osa seljast. Tundub, justkui oleksid palmikud, aga ei ole.
If I am writing here anyway, I can as well give an account on my knitting. The vest is progressing. I have got as far as waist, made some decreases and now increase again. The colour in the pictures is all wrong but the sturcture of the fabric is visible. The first picture showes a front side, the second shows a fragment of the back. It seems as if there were cables but there are none.
